If Your Results Were Not What You Expected, You Still Have Options. Many Options.

A number on a screen does not determine your future. Every year, thousands of students take alternative pathways and still end up in the careers they dream of.

Here are some real, practical options available to you

1. Change Your Preferences

VTAC allows you to adjust your course preferences after seeing your results.
You can

• Add pathway courses
• Reorder your list
• Explore similar degrees with lower ATAR requirements
• Look at regional or online campuses

Universities WANT students, there are more spots than ever, and pathways continue to expand.

2. Consider a Pathway Program

If you didn’t meet a prerequisite score, don’t worry, there are many structured ways in.

Examples include

• Diplomas or associate degrees leading directly into second-year uni
• TAFE pathway programs (Business, Health, IT, Engineering, Education and more)
• Bridging or foundation programs
• VET certificates that build industry experience

These are respected options and are often smaller, more supportive learning environments.

3. Take Time to Decide

Some students benefit from

• A gap year
• Building work experience
• Travelling
• Improving financial independence
• Upskilling before starting a demanding degree

There is no rush. Your timeline is your own.
